It’s always a thrill to check out a new, yet to be born F1 racing circuit, projecting maybe into the future, like 2050, thinking about the new wave of F1 enthusiasts who will be raving mad about the good old days of 2026 (the days when ICE was still around) – by then, 2050, the site will likely be transformed into a giga-terminator factory, but Alonso will be back. I guess…

I can envisage, loud and clear, this little feller, a young Jorge, aged just 15 in 2050, who be like, “Me grandad, Diego Merino, he used to come here to watch F1 and take photos with his camera. What’s a camera? We now take photos with our bionic eyes to store them directly onto Skynet’s cloud servers.” I so obviously made that up, for sure.

However, you guys are now getting an exclusive preview of the track, thanks to Sergio’s heroic track walk.

Some stuff you’d have to imagine, such as the invisible grandstands and the posh paddock club, with its expensive champagne and black caviar (I do love a good new car, caviar, if I may say so myself), happy smiling VIPs laughing all the way to the bank, literally; Richard Mille €1,960,108.80 sustainable watches on every wrist. Carbon-neutral atmosphere. The good stuff we normally associate with Formula 1 since Fangio’s time.

In all honesty, it might be a nice experience for the fans, ordinary common people. I’m positive it’ll be quite user-friendly and simply lovely for the growth of the sport.

Madrid is back.

Here’s the official part though. From the official press release.

Stefano Domenicali, President and CEO of Formula 1, said:

“Madrid is an incredible city with amazing sporting and cultural heritage, and today’s announcement begins an exciting new chapter for F1 in Spain. I would like to thank the team at IFEMA MADRID, the Regional Government of Madrid and the city’s Mayor for putting together a fantastic proposal. It truly epitomises Formula 1’s vision to create a multi-day spectacle of sport and entertainment that delivers maximum value for fans and embraces innovation and sustainability.”

José Luis Martínez-Almeida, Mayor of Madrid, said:

“With the announcement of the Grand Prix, Madrid moves into the future and joins the exclusive group of cities hosting F1 today, placing us at the forefront of the world’s capitals in attracting major events. We know that F1 is more than a race, it is an unprecedented opportunity to drive the transformation that Madrid is undergoing, and to show the world what we are capable of. I am confident that Madrid will be up to the task, not only because we deserve a spectacle of the magnitude of F1, but also because F1 deserves a city with the energy, character, and passion of Madrid.”
