In order of appearance:

  1. Yuki Tsunoda (Carlin)
  2. Nikita Mazepin (Hitech)
  3. Mick Schumacher (PREMA)

SA: A question to all the podium finishers – will you be happy to one day become driver stewards and have to judge penalties?

NM: I think it’s a great job for ex-drivers. Like I said before, I have huge respect for my competitors, driver stewards and people who sort of make this sport be possible for us drivers to race. I think it will be nice to try that job one day because like I’ve learned in many life situations you very often see things from your perspective and then when you’re getting somebody else to choose a sanction it feels different, so it’s very easy to criticize at times. But it will be a nice experience for sure.

YT: Umm, one day maybe. But I’m not good at that, so I don’t know, I’m not sure I can do this job. I mean it’s interesting to be a driver steward, how they make every race good, everything that they’re doing, it’s interesting and impressive. Also, I have a lot of respect for the stewards so maybe one day I wanna do it, yeah.

MS: I think they have a very interesting job, difficult one I think. None of us are probably now currently in the position to judge things right or wrong. Obviously everyone has their own perspectives and we’re only humans so everybody takes their own decisions. If you want something from me, to be honest I don’t think so, I probably prefer driving and sitting behind (better up front!) and watching people drive. But yeah, I think that everybody should do what they enjoy doing.

Qualifying Session (28 August 2020)

SA: Yuki, you’re P1 for the main race and also alongside you is Nobuharu (Matsushita, P3). We obviously saw Takuma Sato take his second Indy 500 win this month, would you consider competing at the Indy 500 one day in the future?

Y. Tsunoda (Carlin), pole position, P1: At the moment, I’m not thinking too much about the Indy 500. Obviously, Takuma did a really impressive job last week (August 23, 2020). Maybe now I don’t want to go to Indianapolis (Motor Speedway) because it looks really scary, also driving for three hours in the race, it looks very risky. You can get injured. It’s a very interesting category, it’s really fun to watch. I want to watch it, not driving in it.

N. Mazepin (Hitech Grand Prix), P2: Yes (I want to do it). Last week I was back with my father and I saw a lot of comments on social media talking about the race. We opened it up on the TV and watched it together. I have to say that there was a lot of frustration for me watching that race because I realised how different the things are over in America. Even though it’s a single-seater category, a lot of driving and racing is different so with myself being a person who loves racing, who loves cars I would definitely love to give it a go. I saw that there were some international names in the race, reasonably young guys as well. I think if I once had a chance, I would like to do it but it’s very important at the moment to try and maximize my career in Europe. I still have a lot left in the tank (little did we know about Maz’s tanks back then… – The Editor) and I’m looking forward to spending quite a few more years here.
